Shooting has been one of the occurring crimes in the United States. For Colorado alone, the shooting at Columbine High School on April 20, 1999, has been the deadliest mass shooting so far. Thirteen were killed and twenty-four were injured. Meanwhile, in the Aurora theater shooting in July 2012, 70 were injured and twelve people died.
There have been more than ten mass shootings since 1993 and while mass shootings garner a lot of media attention, they account for only a small fraction of overall gun deaths.

Five people were killed and twenty-two were injured after a gunman opened fire in a gay nightclub in Colorado Springs. The shooting spree, Denver-Lakewood, December 27, 2021
Five people were killed and two were injured including a Lakewood police officer in a shooting spree across multiple locations in Denver and Lakewood. The gunman was then shot and killed by the police. The “very violent series of events” across multiple locations began in Denver on a Monday evening and ended in nearby Lakewood, Denver as stated by Denver Police Chief Pazen. He added that the “killing spree” began just after five in the afternoon in Denver. At the first location, the attacker fatally shot two women and injured a man. At the second shooting location, the assailant fatally shot a man. There was gunfire at the third location, but no one was injured. Pazen said that officers identified a car associated with the shooter and exchanged gunfire with them at a fourth location.
Nome Park, Aurora, November 15, 2021
In a midday drive-by shooting at a park across the street from an Aurora high school, six teenagers were injured. All the victims who range in age from 14 to 18 are students at Aurora Central High School and were hospitalized as per Chief Police Vanessa Wilson at an afternoon conference. None of their injuries were believed to be life-threatening, but one of the teens was undergoing emergency surgery.
King Soopers, Boulder, March 22, 2021
The gunman, 21, was wounded and arrested after killing ten people in a grocery store including a police officer. The suspect was taken into custody, but there were few answers in the following hours. The workers and shoppers who survived the violent scene in the Front Range college town fled the store any way they could, if they couldn’t, they took shelter inside as the shots echoed.
STEM School, Highlands Ranch, May 7, 2019
One of two high school students accused of opening fire at STEM School Highlands Ranch near Denver, killing an 18-year-old, allegedly told police he targeted students who made fun of his gender identity and had been planning the shooting for a few weeks.
Planned Parenthood, Colorado Springs, November 27, 2015
Nine people were injured in the shooting and a gunman, 57 years old, killed three people including a police officer at a Planned Parenthood clinic. The gunman was arrested after a standoff and turned himself in to police after the lengthy clash, in which officers and the gunman exchanged fire as people were evacuated and tried to flee. At the hearing, he publicly declared his guilt, describing himself as a “warrior for the babies” and said, “I am guilty. There will be no trial.”

A gunman entered a midnight premiere of a Batman movie and killed twelve people and injured seventy people. A gunman, 24 years old killed two people and injured two others on a church campus in Arvada and hours later killed two more people and injured three others at a Colorado Springs church. The gunman had deep personality issues, even though he was raised in a deeply religious family and was home-schooled. He was diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) at the age of 5. He was described as “socially awkward” and had bouts of anger, especially with his mother, and from his comments, postings, and letters he held deep resentments.
Parking lot and RV Park, Rifle, July 3, 2001
A man wielding a handgun shot seven people, killing four, as he walked through a supermarket parking lot and a trailer park in Rifle. Authorities offered no motive, but an official close to the investigation said that Stagner, the suspect, had been treated at the Grand Junction Veterans Administration hospital for schizophrenia and that he may have been drinking after he stopped taking his medication.
Columbine High School, unincorporated Jefferson County, April 20, 1999
Two students, ages 17 and 18 armed with weapons and explosives killed 12 students and a teacher at the school before taking their own lives. Twenty-four people were injured in the attack. SWAT teams entered the school 47 minutes after the shootings started. Five hours passed before law enforcement declared the school under control. The Columbine shootings rank as one of the worst mass shootings in U history as well as one of the deadliest episodes of school violence.

A former employee who had been fired the previous summer returned to the restaurant and killed four workers, wounding another. The gunman, 19 years old, was apparently bent on avenging his firing from a job at a pizza parlor.
